Kim’s connection to the ocean began at a young age, with frequent trips to the beach, aquariums, and boat rides, and getting scuba-certified at 13. In 2008, she became the BSR Frank Scalli Intern and is now the President of the Boston Sea Rovers, making her the first woman to hold that position in the organization’s 70-year history. As the Woods Hole Oceanographic Institution’s Diving Safety Officer, she’s the first female and fourth overall in the institution’s history. Kim also serves as dive supervisor on the civilian dive safety team at the Foundation for Underwater Research & Education’s International Submarine Races, held every two years at the Carderock Naval Warfare Center. As an NAUI instructor trainer, she evaluates diver authorization and training requirements for scientific divers. Kim is an advanced technical CCR diver, making her current participation in the developmental process of modifications/testing of current dive procedures more valuable, as well as research data collection with the Reef Solutions group, specifically in the mesophotic zone (30-70Meters) and on remote expeditions. She holds an MA in Sustainability and Environmental Management from the Harvard Extension School and a BS from the University of New England in Marine Biology.

Pat Morton was Open Water certified in 1988. As her love for diving expanded and her interest in shipwrecks grew, she earned Full Cave certification in 1991 and Trimix certification in 1998. She spent the next 20+ years exploring shipwrecks along the US coast including, The Baleen, U-853, Andrea Doria, Ethel C, USS Wilkes Barre, and MS Rhein to name a few. Although shipwreck exploration remains a passion, she has recently turned her focus to underwater photography, capturing the beauty and mystery of the deep. She joined the Boston Sea Rovers in 1992 after an invitation from Brian Skerry, and in 2024, was elected as the Chairperson of the Board of Directors.
