Art Exhibits

Each year at our annual clinics, the Boston Sea Rovers feature a free to the public art exhibit. These exhibits showcase artwork, photography, artifacts, and history of the underwater world and activities.

This year we will feature two exhibits:
• Artifacts from the Andrea Doria, to commemorate the 70th year anniversary of the sinking.
• Aquatic Themed Origami Exhibit – This interactive exhibit features instructions for creating aquatic origami figures by Michael LaFosse and Richard Alexander (https://www.origamido.com/).

Inaugural 2026 Installation: The Shipwreck Exhibit in Memory of Captain Joe Mazraani. The immersive exhibit will commemorate the 70th anniversary of the SS Andrea Doria sinking. The Shipwreck Exhibit will include: Rare artifacts recovered over seven decades of exploration—including the Andrea Doria’s gyro compass repeater (making its public debut), compass binnacle, foghorn, steering helm, fine China, and period artwork. Firsthand perspectives from veteran explorers who have repeatedly dived and led expeditions to the wreck site. Historical context detailing the 1956 collision with MS Stockholm, rescue efforts, and how Andrea Doria became a catalyst for North Atlantic wreck diving.

Michael G. LaFosse is an origami artist, papermaker, and author with over forty years of experience, inspired by the natural world and the work of Japanese Origami Grand Master Akira Yoshizawa. Richard Alexander, a Cornell University graduate, has a background in systems biology, landscape architecture, and environmental management. The two began collaborating in 1988 to advance origami as a fine art. In 1996, they co-founded Origamido Studio, a teaching center, gallery, and design studio for original origami and handmade paper. Together, they have authored more than 70 books, kits, and videos, and their work has been exhibited in museums worldwide.

Exhibit Hours: 9am-5pm Saturday, 9:30am-3pm Sunday
