What’s Wrong with This Picture?

Do you want to improve your images in post, but don’t know where to start? Maybe you know where to start, but not when to stop. “What’s wrong with my picture?” and “How much editing is too much?” are questions I hear all the time. It’s one thing to know how the tools in Lightroom and Photoshop work, but quite another to know when and why to use them on any given picture. In this workshop, learn how to analyze your images and plan a specific editing strategy that serves the needs of each image; think of it as developing the technical side of your artistic intuition.

Bring in 3-5 of your own images on a USB thumb drive or media card and watch as Erin describes, step-by-step, her process as she develops the image. Bring your RAW (or jpeg original) files to edit and any edited versions of them for comparison. As we work, we’ll cover plenty of editing techniques using Lightroom and Photoshop, including some of Erin’s special dirty tricks developed specifically for underwater images.

•First glance – turn your gut feeling into a plan of editing action.

•Establishing editing priorities.

•Why choose one tool above another to accomplish the same thing?

•Playing in the sandbox – how to work with multiple versions and maintain your sanity.

•How to avoid crossing the one-too-many line in your editing.

•When to cut bait and just re-shoot the dang thing.
