Timothy Dwyer teaches science and math at Spring Street International School in Friday Harbor, Washington. In 2016, he was among 15 teachers selected nationally to participate in PolarTREC, a program that embeds educators with research teams in the polar regions. That October, he traveled to McMurdo Station, Antarctica, diving beneath the ice of the Ross Sea to study polar gigantism, a phenomenon in which sea spiders and other marine invertebrate animals reach abnormally large size. An American Academy of Underwater Sciences diver since 2002, Tim enjoys bringing these and other underwater adventures back to his classroom to inform and inspire his students.
