The Searchlight – An Obscure Weapon At Sea During World War One

The searchlight was an integral part of night-time naval fighting during World War One. The Imperial German High Seas fleet developed special tactics and technologies to exploit its use. Although not used during the Battle of Jutland, the High Seas Fleet extensively trained in their unique use. The remains of their use and technology can be found on the remaining wrecks of the Fleet scuttled in Scapa Flow, and the ‘foul grounds’ – sites where shipwrecks once were but have been salvaged.
