My Brother, the Squid Bait

Taking turns as squid bait for each other, Nancy McGee and brother, Bill, take on their most-feared nemesis, the Humboldt squid.

The most feared creature for divers is not the Great White Shark. It is the Humboldt squid; a vicious cephalopod with a beak that can severe fingers from a hand, and razor-sharp hooks on each sucker. These monsters hunt in packs, grabbing their prey and dragging them to the bottom to rip hunks of flesh from their victim’s body.

Nancy McGee goes in search of the Humboldt squid, drawing them up from the depths at night over deep channels in the Sea of Cortez.
