The 139-foot schooner William Young was built in 1863 at Madison Dock, Ohio. Late in September 1891 she left Buffalo in tow of the propeller Nashua, bound for Racine, Wisconsin with 600 tons of coal. A howling gale erupted on September 28th and on October 5, 1891, after a long battle with the gale; the William Young went down in the Straits of Mackinac.
