Diving the Shipwrecks of Martha’s Vineyard

The waters of Vineyard Sound, which separates the Vineyard from mainland Cape Cod, are littered with dozens of shipwrecks. The British freighter Port Hunter, sunk with millions of dollars of war supplies, the Vineyard Lightship, whose entire crew were lost when the ship sank in a hurricane in 1944, the 4-masted schooner Sagamore, the freight boat Kershaw and many others, all await divers to explore their remains in the relatively shallow, warm waters.
