On the bitter cold night of January 30, 1945 the German liner Wilhelm Gustloff was torpedoed and sunk in the Baltic Sea by a Russian submarine. On board there were over 10,000 German refugees and military personnel attempting to escape the advancing Russian Army. More than 9,000 men, women and children perished, “Death In The Baltic” explores the history of the deadliest maritime disaster in history and the wreck of the Wilhelm Gustloff.
