Forty years ago in a January Northeaster, the coastal tanker Chester A Poling foundered and sank in heavy seas off the coast of Cape Ann. The vessel split in half with the stern section coming to rest approximately 800 yards off Eastern Point. In late February of that same year three divers, using dry suits and a 12-foot rubber Avon made the first recreational dives on this wreck. This is a story about, who they were, what they saw, found, removed, as of well as a journal of some of the adventures they had during those early dives.
